Phoenix Farm Work Day

April 21, 2018

Crop Mobs traveled to Phoenix Farm located in Cassville PA this past Saturday to help the Dubetz family clean up their 100 year old barn. The 100 acre land has been in the Dubetz family since the 1920s and Trella Dubetz is intending to create a permaculture atmosphere equipped with a food forest and teaching center.

We had 10 volunteers come out on this beautiful sunny day and were able to get a lot of work done for the Dubetz family and spend time sharing a meal, swinging on their barn rope swing and playing with some dogs afterwards!

Everyone really enjoyed the day and we got to have tea from the mint that we picked on the farm as a refreshing treat. We can't wait to return and help the Dubetz family work on future projects!

Last Sunday, ten Crop Mob participants traveled to the Re Farm Cafe at Windswept farm in the State College area to help on their 57 acre farm. The Re Farm Cafe is a member of the Living Building Challenge and is seeking to generate net-positive energy at their site.

We helped Eric Hagan, the Re farm's manager clear a path surrounding an old fence to encourage animal grazing and replenish the forest without excessive deforestation. Eric was highly informative and showed us about his self-designed green house that utilizes a concrete wall to retain temperature as well as solar panels to generate electricity for the internal heater.

We had a great time helping at the farm and talking to owners Monica and Duke Gastiger about their exciting future projects. The cafe is said to open within the next year or so and we can't wait to come back!
